Dr. Cefalu served as Professor and Associate Chairman for Geriatric Program Development in the Department of Family Medicine at the LSU School of Medicine –New Orleans from July 1997 to 2002. Effective July 1, 2002, Dr. Cefalu was appointed Professor and Chief of the new Section of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Family Medicine at the LSU School of Medicine –New Orleans. He is currently Program Director of the LSU Geriatric Medicine Fellowship as of March 2005 and Chief of the Section of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine at LSUHSC. He was appointed as Co-Director of the Center on Aging at the LSU Health Science Center in May 2006. He currently supervises LSU medical students and internal medicine and family medicine residents in the nursing home setting.
