New iPad App Organizes Medical Rounding Data

For clinicians and nurse practitioners who still use handwritten notes during their rounds, the MediRounds application, produced by MediRounds LLC, provides a new option, making it easy and fast to track, access, maintain, and analyze data from patient rounds on an iPad. The physician-designed app, released July 30, 2012, features a user-friendly interface in which clinicians can input patient information as well as e-mail notes and reports for their later use. The app organizes status information for an unlimited number of patients, according to medication list, equipment list, trending vital signs, trending laboratory values, a patient “to-do” list, and other historical information for a patient’s stay. The app may also be used as a teaching platform for students, as it has numerous tutorials in basic rounding skills, provides constructive data for clinical case presentations, and emphasizes critical thinking skills in patient care by focusing on a patient’s clinical context.

The app compiles with all HIPAA regulations and encryption guidelines for data security. It can be downloaded for the iPad from the iTunes store for $29.99. MediRounds LLC is in the process of developing the app for iPhones and iPods. Learn more about the product at www.medirounds.com.
